Our School

Welcome

Our History

The school is named after St. John Bosco (b.16/8/1815 - d.31/8/1888) who founded the Salesian order of Priests and religious Brothers. Don Bosco was an Italian priest who lived and worked in the Italian city of Turin. His life’s work was the care of young people, especially the ‘poor and abandoned’. He was called “Don” by his students which means “Father” in Italian. St. John Bosco founded the Salesians to continue his spirit and mission and was proclaimed a Saint of the Catholic Church in 1934.

The school is one of the oldest primary schools in the Narre Warren area. It was officially opened on Sunday, 11th February, 1982 by the then Bishop of Sale, Eric D’Arcy.  Don Bosco Primary School began with an enrolment of 131 children and 6 teaching staff. There were four permanent classrooms and two portable classrooms. In 2015, we will commence the year with 420 students, 17 classes and 38 staff members. The staff at Don Bosco Primary School strive to develop caring, positive and professional relationships with every student at the school so that the children can experience an enjoyable, challenging and educational curriculum in a safe environment.

Don Bosco Primary School has a multi-cultural community that places a strong emphasis on the pastoral care of the students and educating the “whole child” in accordance with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.

Our Mission

Don Bosco Primary School is a Catholic primary school for the children of Our Lady Help of Christian Parish, Narre Warren. Our staff are committed to the evangelising mission of the church and to the spiritual tradition of Don Bosco. Inspired by St John Bosco’s belief to be a sign and bearer of God’s love to the young and to assist young people to grow and mature as good Christians and ethical, global citizens. The school is committed to creating an environment characterised by a sense of welcome, a spirit of faith, dynamic learning, and engaged social interaction for its multicultural community.

Our Vision

At Don Bosco Primary School, we are striving to create a school community where:

  • A love of Christ and a love of one another is fostered and experienced through daily actions and nurtured through prayer and the Sacramental life of a Catholic community.

  • Responsible, reflective, confident learners are actively engaged in a learning environment that supports and encourages collaboration and critical-thinking.

  • An inclusive learning environment fosters individualism, respects and celebrates diversity and promotes positive relationships and resilience.
